Why Halcyon

Hard water is what actually breaks plumbing here

A Halcyon plumber going through the quote with a customer

We quote the job, not the hour

Hourly billing pays a plumber to work slowly. Everything we do is priced by the job and agreed at the door, so a hard afternoon is our problem rather than yours.

Parts stocked in the back of the service van

The parts are already on the van

Every common heater element, cartridge, flex line and fill valve. A repair that needs a second visit is usually a stocking failure rather than a hard problem.

The same Halcyon plumber arriving for a call

Nobody here works on commission

Our plumbers are paid the same whether they descale your heater or replace it. That is the only reliable way to be told the truth about which one you need.

Built for this water

Scottsdale water is hard enough to shorten everything

Valley water runs past 300ppm of dissolved minerals. Every fixture it passes through collects a little of that, and a water heater collects all of it at the bottom of the tank.

So we flush on a schedule instead of waiting for the bang, and we fit the parts that survive scale rather than the ones that are cheapest on the shelf.

Water heater went on a Saturday. Replaced by early afternoon and the price was the one quoted on the phone.

Told me my heater only needed a flush when two other companies had quoted a replacement. That was three years ago and it is still fine.

Found a slab leak with a camera instead of opening the floor first. Saved me thousands and a week of mess.

Questions we get every week

My water heater is making a banging noise. Is it about to fail?

Not usually, but it is telling you something. That bang is steam forcing its way up through a layer of hardened scale on the bottom of the tank. Valley water builds that fast. Flushed early it is a maintenance job; left for years it cooks the tank from the inside and becomes a replacement.

How long should a water heater last in Scottsdale?

Eight to twelve years here against the ten to fifteen the manufacturer quotes, and the difference is entirely the water. An annual flush is most of what closes that gap, and it costs a fraction of a new tank.

Do I need a water softener?

If you are replacing fixtures or heating elements more than once a decade, probably yes. Valley water runs past 300ppm, and everything it touches pays for that. We will test yours and tell you the number before recommending anything.

Why is my drain slow again a month after clearing it?

Because it was cleared rather than cleaned. A cable punches a hole through a blockage and the water runs; the grease or root mass is still on the pipe wall. If a drain comes back quickly we camera it rather than cable it twice.

Is a tankless heater worth it here?

Sometimes. They last longer and never run out, but hard water scales the heat exchanger and they need descaling yearly or the warranty lapses. If you will not keep up with that, a good tank heater is the better buy.
